A director of a Sipp provider will travel day and night to complete a 100km trek this weekend as she helps a children’s charity – despite getting injured in training.

Claire Trott from Talbot and Muir will be among 2,500 adventurers going from London to Brighton tomorrow morning.

Ms Trott, a Sipps Professional columnist, fell and hurt herself while training last weekend but is determined to complete the capital to coast challenge, regardless. She has raised nearly £2,000 already for Barnardo’s.

Her journey, which will be 60% off road, starts from Richmond Park and ends at Brighton racecourse.

In training, she has done half the distance by travelling 50km through the New Forest.

When Ms Trott decided to take on this challenge, she had never done a marathon before. But she has already done two so far this year and she has completed over 30 miles, three times in her practice sessions.

She said: “I once said I would never run a marathon and now I’m running two and half marathons in one go - I must be out of my mind!

“I started running in 2010 when I was back at Suffolk Life when someone said you should do something for charity. That’s how it started and that’s where it progressed.”

She told Sipps Professional her colleagues “think I’m a bit insane but they are very supportive”.

She is aiming to finish in 16-17 hours but will have to wear a head torch in the latter part to cope with the dark.

There is some relief on the trek, with snack and drink checkpoints eight miles apart.

Though a 100km trek may appear daunting for many, Ms Trott said it pales in comparison to tackling retirement income law.

She said: “Pensions legislation is much harder work than running. Sometimes you can’t get to the bottom of what it means but with running you eventually get where you are going.

“There are some good ideas formed when I’m running myself. Thinking helps you forget about distance and distance helps you think about a problem.”

She hopes colleagues and counterparts in the world of Sipps, SSAS and pensions will support her fundraising.

She said: “I would love to appeal to my fellow pension colleagues to help me, as it’s a great cause.”

Graham Muir, her fellow director is also a runner, said Talbot and Muir is “proud to have supported the work of Barnardo’s for many years now”.
